ART-ED 478 CURRICULUM ASSESSMENT METHODS

Teaching Metaphor

Teaching is like charting the stars in the sky

Stars are a constant part of the night sky. They can be used to navigate position. They assist the moon in providing light for beings in our galaxy.
Constellations vary form culture to culture. Humans have used constellations as devices to preserve history to inspire imagination, to explain phenomena. They vary from culture to culture.

A teacher is like someone charting constellations. The constellations you see and chart are dependent on the culture you come form, but they can be used to help us remember star positions. to understand the night sky, and our position under it. it is important for teachers to help student s understand school as a tool for accessing and navigating under the greater light and that cultural learning is good as long as we remember that it si not the ends but rather a means to finding greater truth and light.

Springville museum of art fieldtrip

Springville Gallery Visit

I'm in the best program ever. Mid-class last Wednesday Dr. Graham decided to have us take a field trip to the Springville Museum of Art to see their closing show on spirituality.
There were so many beautiful works to look at. Walking into an art museum has always been a reverent experience for me. I feel like in some ways, I am entering the presence of the divine. Maybe its because the divine and creation have always had a relationship.
I felt that quiet stillness and heart power in this place as well. Here are a few pieces that touched me.

"Meditation on a Peach" by Colby Sanford

I love this artist. I have since researched more of his work and it is so beautiful. it reminds me of John Singer Sergent, mixed with Annie Henrie, with a touch of Klimpt. Beautiful. Peaceful. Full of stories.
